Safety concept for standard commercial vehicle fuel tanks
The fuel tanks of commercial vehicles are coated with an elastomer composite material that provides a much higher degree of safety and is intended to prevent collateral damage in the event of an accident.
The thin (1.2 mm) nitrile-coated aramid fabric has already proven itself in motor sports and is now to be used as a secondary protective shell within tanks. This highly puncture and tear-resistant material significantly reduces the risk of a catastrophic loss of fuel in the event of an accident. This concept is currently being tested in a wide-ranging development study.
